Counselling and Somatic Psychotherapy

My Approach

Welcome. Whether you have experienced therapy previously or this is your first time, I welcome you warmly.

Sometimes life is difficult and we just muddle through and get on with it. Perhaps we don’t feel seen or heard and advice from others isn’t helpful. This can impact our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Talking to someone who listens attentively with warmth and acceptance can be the first step towards making positive changes.

I see counselling as an unfolding, creative process and my hope is that through working together you can find your way back home to yourself and feel more comfortable and confident in your skin.

How I can help

My approach is eclectic, offering person-centred counselling, somatic therapy and creative resources. I work in a non-directive way, believing that you hold the key to your own potential for growth and with this in mind I do not diagnose or offer opinions. You are in charge and we work together at your own rate and pace.

The heart of our work is building a collaborative relationship based on trust, respect, warmth and confidentiality. In this I endeavour to give you my full attention, listening attentively to what is being said, and sometimes what is not said, holding the space with presence, compassion and full acceptance of who you are and what you bring.

I am completely engaged in your process, helping you to unravel and understand those aspects of your life that are simply not working. Change happens when you have greater awareness and understanding of your situation, enabling you to view your issues from other perspectives, allowing new feelings and behaviour to emerge.

Sometimes we feel disconnected from our body. Our mind may experience one thing and our body something entirely different. In a somatic approach we invite the mind to become aware of the body, sensations, feelings and gestures it holds, and the patterns through which it expresses. Together we explore the relationship between your thoughts, beliefs, story and experiences in relation to body/mind. We can work with breath, relaxation, movement, gestures, visualisation or creative resources.

My approach is sensitive to your needs and you are always in the driving seat in your embodied explorations. This is an interactive process to help you become more aware and conscious of what is happening in your body and how this links to your thinking and your life. You may relieve physical tension, shift feelings of being stuck, release emotions and work through traumatic experiences, This is a whole body experience for you feel and live your life with a sense of autonomy and empowerment.
